John Loh’s op-ed on fighting in contested airspace
Former head of Air Combat Command, Gen. John Michael Loh, has written this op-ed on why the U.S. Air Force
should not focus on just operating in contested airspace using stealth aircraft and standoff weapons.

Loh argues that the service has forgotten on applying “classic air power tactics” to rollback heavily-defended airspace into uncontested airspace. He pointed out how the Israelis were able to achieve air superiority over the Bekaa Valley in 1982 using U.S. Air Force rollback tactics to destroy the Syrian air defense system. And it was again demonstrated during Operation Desert Storm.
